134. James Folsom - Life Sentence

This week on the podcast, I'm speaking with James Folsom, ultra-endurance cyclist, and bikepacker.

I've been wanting to connect with James for some time now. I had the pleasure or riding with him during the 2021 AR700. We sat and enjoyed some snacks at a gas station in Coleman, before rolling on to find a place to sleep in some random field. We didn't have a lot of time to chat to get to know one another, so here we are.

Once we got into the conversation, I was fascinated with James' life story and how he worked his way up from homelessness to becoming a Telecommunications Analyst. Later, his path changed again to better align with his desire to make a career out of life behind bars.

James currently holds the 24 World Time Trial Fixed Gear record having traveled 416mi (665.6km) in 22h 21min. We chat about training, nutrition, and a time in his life when he faced adversity in the form of a cancer diagnosis.

I really appreciated the way James faced all of the challenges in his life and hope you are inspired by this as much as I am.
